Hydrangea

Dry moving air does more damage than outdoor heat: it pulls moisture from the head faster than the stem replaces it, so a head under a vent goes soft in a day while the same flowers across the room hold. Place this one deliberately, in the corner the draught misses.

Mist the head lightly in the morning, a haze of droplets and no more: water that pools in the folds between florets browns them by evening. Roses and lilies are never misted at all, because their petals mark where a drop sits.

Browning that has already happened will not reverse, since those edges are dead tissue rather than thirst. Snip the worst florets out from underneath and the head reads whole again from the front.

Online orders are taken around the clock, and you can buy hydrangeas in Dubai as a mono bouquet of nothing but heads — one of the simplest things we make, and it takes very few of them to fill one out. Hydrangea also does the heavy lifting inside a mixed bouquet or a box, giving roses and lisianthus something solid to sit against.

Everything is put together by hand here in the studio, so the size is yours to set; the order itself is placed and closed on the site, and the total shown before you confirm — flowers and delivery together — is either paid by card on a secure Stripe page — the default at checkout — or handed to the courier at the door, in cash or by card. A florist rings afterwards to agree the time, WhatsApp (+971 54 396 9669) covers everything else, and a photo of the finished arrangement is sent to you before it leaves the studio.

An order in before 18:00 goes out that day. Deliveries run until 20:00 and the studio is open 10:00 to 20:00 daily. We deliver across Dubai, to Sharjah, and to selected areas of Abu Dhabi.

Ask whoever receives it to put the flowers into deep water straight away rather than leaving them on a desk. Hydrangea drinks hard, and a stem left dry is the one thing it does not forgive.

Hydrangea prices in Dubai come down to three things: how large the heads are, how many go into the arrangement, and the season, since hydrangea is at its best from late spring into autumn. One head does the work of several ordinary stems, so a hydrangea bouquet usually needs fewer flowers in it than people expect.

Every hydrangea in the shop is listed with its own price, which is the quickest way to settle it. For a size that is not listed, or a particular colour, message the florist on WhatsApp and we will price it for you.

The coloured parts are sepals, not petals: a huge evaporating surface fed by one woody stem. That is why a head can look perfect in the morning and go limp by the afternoon. Cut 2–3 cm off at a sharp angle with a clean blade, never crushed, which damages the vessels, and strip every leaf, not just those below the water: the leaves drink before the head does.

Then a deep vase, topped up daily. One head empties a small vase overnight, and the depth is a reserve, because a stem that runs dry even briefly is hard to bring back. If the head does go limp, lay it face-down in cool water for twenty minutes; the sepals take up water directly, and one that looked finished comes back firm.

Mature heads are what to ask for: the sepals thicken, the colour drifts towards green, dusty pink or burgundy, and they hold far longer than young ones. If you want fresh hydrangeas that will still look right next week, ask for older heads rather than the brightest ones. Blue or pink was decided by the soil the plant grew in, not by anything done after cutting, so colour is something to agree on when you order rather than something to change at home.

Those same heads are also the ones to dry, and hydrangea rewards drying more than anything else we sell. Stand a head in two fingers of water and let the water evaporate instead of pulling the stem out early: dried slowly like that, the shape keeps for months. Keep it out of the air conditioning while it dries.
